No. You do not need a referral from a family doctor to schedule an eye exam with an optometrist.
The recommended frequency depends on your age, eye health, medical history, and vision needs. Your optometrist will recommend an appropriate examination schedule for you.
Please bring your Ontario health card, current glasses or contact lenses, a list of medications, and your private insurance information, if applicable.
Most comprehensive eye exams take approximately 30 to 45 minutes, although the appointment may take longer if additional testing is required.
Yes. Our team can help you explore prescription glasses, sunglasses, contact lenses, and other eyewear based on your prescription and lifestyle.
Depending on your child's age, prescription, eye health, and lifestyle, options may include specialty eyeglass lenses, soft contact lenses, orthokeratology lenses, or pharmaceutical treatment. Our optometrist will recommend the most appropriate approach.
OHIP covers eye exams for eligible Ontario residents based on their age and certain medical conditions. Please contact us if you are unsure whether you qualify.
Yes. Children and youth aged 19 and younger are eligible for one major eye exam every 12 months, along with eligible follow-up assessments.
Adults aged 65 and older without an eligible medical condition are covered for one major eye exam every 18 months and two eligible minor assessments. Seniors with qualifying conditions may be eligible for more frequent coverage.
Routine eye exams are generally not covered for this age group. However, adults with eligible medical conditions affecting their eyes may receive one major exam every 12 months and two eligible minor assessments.
OHIP generally does not cover the cost of glasses, contact lenses, or routine contact lens fittings. Coverage may be available through private insurance or certain provincial assistance programs.
Yes. We offer direct billing to most major insurance providers. Please bring your insurance information so we can verify your eligibility and available coverage. Any amount not covered by your plan will be the patient's responsibility.
